Shams Charania shares what it would take for Celtics to trade Jaylen Brown

The Boston Celtics are viewed as a team that could make a significant trade this summer, and there has been some speculation that they will entertain offers for Jaylen Brown. If that were to happen, it sounds like the offer would need to be massive.

ESPN’s Shams Charania was asked during a Thursday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” about the possibility of Brown being traded. The reporter suggested the asking price for both Brown and Celtics point guard Derrick White would be massive.

“I’m sure teams are throwing crazy offers for guys like Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, but it’ll take a pretty insurmountable package to get those guys out of Boston,” Charania said.

The Celtics are facing a luxury tax bill that could approach $300 million next year. Jayson Tatum suffered a torn Achilles in the playoffs and is not a lock to play next season. There is a line of thinking that Boston might essentially punt on 2025-26 and look to unload top players and their respective salaries.

Brown has four years remaining on his 5-year, $314 million deal with the Celtics. White is playing under a more affordable 4-year, $118 million deal and would probably be easier to trade. That does not mean Boston wants to part with either player.

Jrue Holiday (who is in the middle of a four-year, $134 million contract), Kristaps Porzingis (two years, $60 million) and Payton Pritchard (four years, $30 million) are players who are more likely to be traded this summer than Brown and White.

Brown has been unhappy in the past when his name came up in trade rumors, but he may not have to worry about that this offseason.
