Report: Sixers interested in signing Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford

The young Philadelphia 76ers may be adding more veteran balance to the mix.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson of Scoop B Radio reported on Wednesday that the Sixers are interested in signing free agent guard Jamal Crawford.

Crawford, who remains unsigned over a month into free agency, averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 assists in 20.7 minutes a game for the Minnesota Timberwolves last year. While he is 38 years old and comes with limitations (namely, volume without efficiency on offense and woefully poor defense), the Sixers may have a need. Veteran scorers Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova signed elsewhere this summer, and rookie Zhaire Smith just went down with a fractured foot.

Some NBA players have openly questioned why Crawford has not been signed. Philadelphia (where he would be reunited with former LA Clippers teammate JJ Redick and former New York Knicks teammate Wilson Chandler) could be a logical landing spot for the three-time Sixth Man of the Year Award winner.
