Sophie Cunningham is still getting plenty of love from fans, even now that the Indiana Fever have been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Fever guard Cunningham started a GoFundMe page this week as a joke. It all began on Tuesday when a fan suggested launching a GoFundMe to pay for Cunningham’s future fines from the WNBA.

The post drew the attention of Cunningham herself, who wrote, “honestly, I’m starting to like this idea” in a message to her X page.

On Thursday, Cunningham formally launched the fundraiser, along with the name “It’s a joke.” On the GoFundMe page, Cunningham wrote, “This is more of a joke than anything. For fines only or to charity or for a yacht idk….”

I could use your help with my fundraiser on GoFundMe. Please share, support, or donate—every small action counts. https://t.co/VfBLOKUzNK

Might as well have fun with it huh?

Much to Cunningham’s surprise though, the donations actually started piling in. At one point, Cunningham posted another message on X, emphasizing that the GoFundMe was a “joke” and that there was “just no way you can think I’m actually serious.”

But the GoFundMe page continued to blow up and (as of the time of writing) raised a total of $4,764 dollars from 105 different donors. Eventually, Cunningham stepped in and announced that all of the funds from the GoFundMe would instead be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities. She also said that “I’ll take care of my own fines.”

To be clear, whatever we raise here will be going directly to Ronald McDonald House Charities. I’ll take care of my own fines. Y'all are the best though

Cunningham has earned a reputation as the most fined player in the WNBA. She drew multiple league fines over the course of the 2025 season for her outspoken comments, usually railing against the officiating.

While Cunningham only made $100,000 in salary this year, fines from the WNBA are proportional, meaning that she was only docked a few hundred dollars or so each time. The greater storyline here however is Cunningham’s continuing popularity with fans, which began when she physically defended star teammate Caitlin Clark during a game this season.
