The San Antonio Spurs are moving on from a fairly recent former top-10 pick.
The Spurs have agreed to release forward Jeremy Sochan after failing to find a trade for him at the deadline, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Charania added that Sochan will likely have interest from several teams.

Not long ago, Sochan appeared to have a key role in San Antonio’s future after they selected him 9th overall in 2022. He made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2023, and averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in his second season. Last season, he was largely shifted to the bench, and injuries have limited him to 28 games this season.
The decision to release Sochan comes as something of a surprise, as the Spurs shopped him around at the trade deadline to no avail. While well-regarded as a defender, he never quite developed as a shooter, and did not necessarily complement Victor Wembanyama’s skillset.
Teams will undoubtedly have some use for Sochan, both for his free throw ability and his highly unorthodox free throw stylings.
