Steve Kerr got in ‘MAGA’ jab before Warriors’ win over Celtics
Steve Kerr was feeling petty before his team’s game against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
During his pregame media availability, the Golden State Warriors head coach Kerr reacted to Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 United States presidential election. Kerr acknowledged that democracy and the American people had spoken in electing Trump and added that he wanted Trump to do well over the next four years.
But Kerr still ended his media session with a petty jab. When asked about what his message was for his team before the game, Kerr replied, “I just told them in our meeting this morning, ‘Let’s make America great again and beat the Celtics tonight.'”

At one point during his session, Kerr also made some sarcastic comments about Trump’s claims of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election. You can read Kerr’s full remarks below.

Kerr was also loudly booed by the Celtics fans during pregame introductions (though that likely had much more to do with Kerr’s controversial benching of Boston star Jayson Tatum during the Paris Olympics). In the end though, the Warriors still got the 118-112 road victory.
The four-time NBA champion head coach Kerr has long been a vocal critic of Trump and even spoke at the Democratic National Convention this year in support of Kamala Harris. Trump has also returned fire at Kerr’s barbs in the past, and the war of words between the two is likely to continue now that Trump is headed for a second term in the Oval Office.
