Steve Kerr mocks Oscar Robertson’s criticism of Warriors, Steph Curry
The Warriors continue to take some criticism from some of the game’s greats over their style of play, and Oscar Robertson is one of them.
On Thursday, the Big O appeared on ESPN’s Mike and Mike show to discuss Curry and the Warriors. Via NJ.com’s Randy Miller, he roughly said that defenses don’t play Curry tight enough, coaches don’t understand basketball, and the Warriors basically run one or two plays – basically, Curry is good, but the NBA today enables him and isn’t tough enough to stop him, but the NBA of the olden days would have.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr caught wind of these remarks on Thursday and had a sharp response, via Sam Gardner of Fox Sports.
“Oh I’m sure, yeah,” Kerr said when asked about Robertson’s comments. “I could have stopped this back in my time. Boy, I would have shut Steph down.
“Because athletes, you know, 50 years ago were much bigger, stronger and faster, more finely tuned,” Kerr added. “So Steph might not have made it in the league.”
Robertson probably didn’t see plays like this one. Teams try to defend Curry physically and tightly. It just doesn’t work.
