Steve Kerr’s son is moving up in the Golden State Warriors organization.
Nick Kerr is being promoted to the Warriors’ NBA coaching staff. The announcement was made by the G League Santa Cruz Warriors’ Instagram account, where Kerr served as head coach for the last two seasons.
Kerr’s new role is yet to be defined. He previously spent three seasons with the Warriors as a video coordinator and player development coach before moving to become head coach of the team’s G League affiliate.
The younger Kerr does have some coaching bona fides of his own. He previously worked in the San Antonio Spurs’ film room under Gregg Popovich, which made for a funny moment when the Spurs and Warriors met in the 2018 NBA Playoffs.
The 32-year-old Kerr is one of Steve’s three children, though he is the only one who has gone into coaching. Before going into coaching, he played collegiately at San Diego and as a walk-on at Cal.
In two seasons of coaching at the G League level, Kerr went 40-28 and made the postseason in both years.
