The Golden State Warriors have gone from an unstoppable force to one of the worst teams in the NBA in the blink of an eye, and many have speculated that they will not bother having Stephen Curry return from his hand injury this year due to the circumstances. However, the plan is not for him to miss the remainder of the season.
Steve Kerr made an appearance on the “Posted Up” podcast with Yahoo’s Chris Haynes recently, and he said it remains unlikely that Klay Thompson will play this season after he tore his ACL late last year. Curry, on the other hand, is expected back.
“His injury is not nearly as serious as Klay’s because we’re dealing with a hand and not a knee,” Kerr said, as transcribed by Drew Shiller of NBC Bay Area. “We’ll re-evaluate Steph sometime in February, but I think there’s an excellent chance he comes back sometime in March — late in the season.”
While the Warriors are 9-30 and essentially have nothing to play for, Kerr said Curry is anxious to get back on the floor.
“Our fans deserve to see him play, he’s dying to play, our young players want to play with him,” the coach added. “So if we can get him back at the end of the season, it would be great.”
Curry has had two surgeries since he fell and broke his hand on Oct. 30, and one initial report said he would miss the entire season. However, as Kerr said, there’s really no reason for Curry to sit out if doctors declare him 100 percent healthy. It sounds like the Warriors are expecting that clearance to come in the next two months or so.
