Russell Westbrook might just end up pump-faking his retirement.
Retired former All-Star big man Zach Randolph appeared recently on Patrick Beverley’s “Out The Mud” podcast. At one point during the show, the conversation turned to the retired former NBA MVP Westbrook.
Randolph shared the rumor that Westbrook might actually still be looking to play in the league. The former All-NBA selection Randolph said that he recently spoke to Westbrook’s brother Ray and came away with the idea that Westbrook could potentially come out of retirement down the road.
“Brodie got a lot left in him,” said Randolph of Westbrook. “I just saw his little brother yesterday, Ray. He might be back. We don’t know. He might be back.”
Westbrook, who turns 38 years old in November, announced in a social media post last month that he had decided to retire after 18 career seasons in the NBA. The nine-time All-Star reportedly had contract offers from two NBA teams in particular before ultimately choosing to walk away.
That said, Westbrook averaged a respectable 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game last year for the Sacramento Kings and could still hypothetically contribute to a point guard-needy team in the middle of next season. In any case though, Westbrook did already manage to land a new post-retirement job in basketball earlier this month.
