The Minnesota Timberwolves just had their deepest playoff run in two decades, but there appears to be some doubt about their ability to run it back with the full squad next season.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported Saturday that the Timberwolves have “some concern” about losing veteran forward Kyle Anderson this offseason. Anderson, 30, is set to be an unrestricted free agent after spending the last two seasons with Minnesota.
As a key figure off the bench on the Timberwolves’ Western Conference Finals team this season, Anderson averaged 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Though those numbers do not necessarily pop off the page, Anderson provided plenty of value to Minnesota with his length at 6-foot-9, his defensive prowess, and his ball-handling skill as a lead second-unit creator.
Anderson has played his way into a nice contract this summer, but it might not be one that the Timberwolves are able to give to him. They already have an obscene amount of long-term money committed to their frontcourt and may need to focus on other areas of the roster with the remaining funds that they have. With concerns as well that the team’s incoming ownership group could potentially cut payroll, Minnesota may have to start preparing for life without Slow-Mo.
