The Minnesota Timberwolves are taking a flier on a fading Utah Jazz prospect.
The Timberwolves and Jazz reportedly agreed to a trade Friday that sends Josh Green and cash to Utah in exchange for former lottery pick Cody Williams and veteran swingman John Konchar. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the team will waive-and-stretch Konchar but keep Williams.

Reports emerged earlier this week that the Timberwolves were looking to trade Green, whom the team acquired from the Charlotte Hornets in the LaMelo Ball trade, to free up more cap space. They managed to do that while also landing a polarizing prospect in Williams.
The Jazz traded Williams just two years after selecting him 10th overall in the 2024 draft. The Colorado alum had one of the worst rookie seasons from a top-10 pick in recent memory, posting averages of 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 32.3 percent shooting across 50 games.
The most memorable moment from Williams’ rookie campaign arguably came off the court, when he made some cocky comments about playing against LeBron James.
Williams had a much more productive sophomore campaign, averaging 8.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on a much-improved 46.8 percent shooting clip. But it clearly wasn’t enough to convince the rebuilding Jazz to keep him around.
