The Toronto Raptors certainly want to keep Kawhi Leonard, and the effort to do so is now extending into some pretty unusual places.
Toronto mayor John Tory partnered with Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia on Saturday to launch a website where fans can urge Leonard to stay, while simultaneously asking that fans leave him alone and respect his privacy if they see him in public.
The website, titled “Kawhi, U Should Stay!” is designed to allow fans to sign a petition urging Leonard to remain with the Raptors. Tory and Bhatia assured signees that Leonard will see their words at some point without bothering him in public.
“To all the fans all over Canada… Let him enjoy his privacy right now with his family. Just leave him alone. Let him enjoy the city. We want him to stay,” Bhatia said, via Gabby Rodrigues of the Global News. “We are not giving him the space which he deserves to have.”
Leonard is clearly having a good time around town in the aftermath of Toronto’s title win. There seems to be some desperation to let him enjoy it and leave him alone in the hope that it convinces him that the city is worth staying in.
