Tyrese Maxey suffered a hamstring injury during the Philadelphia 76ers’ loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, and the star point guard is now set to miss several games.

Maxey is expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Maxey was seen limping as he left the court during the third quarter of Wednesday night’s game at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. The 76ers announced that he had hamstring soreness and would not return. They are now planning to play it safe with Maxey, whom they signed to a 5-year, $204 million contract extension over the summer.

The 76ers are off to a 1-6 start this season, and the health of their team has been the biggest factor in that. Paul George missed the start of the year with a knee injury he suffered in a preseason game last month, but he made his Sixers debut on Monday night against the Phoenix Suns. Joel Embiid also has yet to play because of a knee injury and now a three-game suspension. Embiid is expected to play when Philly hosts the New York Knicks next Tuesday.

Maxey has averaged 27.6 points per game through the first seven games of the season. He had been playing serious minutes with his star teammates sidelined, but he will now have to focus on his own recovery.
