Warriors interested in bringing back Monta Ellis?

Monta Ellis

The Golden State Warriors could be throwing it way back this offseason.

ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported Monday that the Western Conference champs were among several teams who attended a private workout in Las Vegas this week featuring former stars Amar’e Stoudemire and Monta Ellis.

The Ellis angle is particularly interesting as he played the first seven seasons of his NBA career in Golden State and was Stephen Curry’s original running mate. He also won the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award with the Warriors in 2007 and started for their memorable “We Believe” team that year as well.

What’s more is the Dubs have an apparent need in the backcourt — though they acquired both D’Angelo Russell and Alec Burks this summer, Quinn Cook left in free agency, Shaun Livingston seems likely to retire, and Splash Brother Klay Thompson could miss the entire year with a torn ACL. That said, Ellis has not played in over two years and may be eyeing another team anyway.
