The Golden State Warriors made a major trade, followed by another on Wednesday.
Just after ending their saga with Jonathan Kuminga by sending him to the Atlanta Hawks along with Buddy Hield in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis, the Dubs got another trade done, this time involving the Toronto Raptors. Golden State sent Trayce Jackson-Davis to the Raptors and, in return, got a second-round pick via the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
By adding Porzingis, the Warriors viewed Jackson-Davis as an expendable asset and eventually parlayed him into additional draft capital.
It also appears that Golden State was not going to pick up its club option worth $2.406 million on the former Indiana Hoosiers star for the 2026-27 season. That is now for the Raptors to decide on. In any case, they have now added depth to their frontcourt that has been missing the services of injured big man Jakob Poeltl since Dec. 21.
Jackson-Davis gets a fresh start with Toronto while still getting an opportunity to contribute to a team with a legitimate chance to make the NBA Playoffs.
Selected by the Warriors in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft, Jackson-Davis, who will turn 26 on Feb. 22, averaged 13.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals per 36 minutes through 66 games with the Warriors.
