Caitlin Clark was not pleased about a reporter trying to turn Team USA’s triumph into a referendum on her relationship with Angel Reese.
The United States women’s basketball team was victorious on Sunday in the gold medal match of the FIBA Women’s World Cup. They defeated France by a convincing final score of 97-79 at Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany.
After the game, Clark spoke with the media about the win. But she ended up getting mad at one reporter who asked her about Reese (her Team USA teammate during the tournament) by saying, “Are you guys friends now?”
“We’ve always been friends, don’t try to do that,” said Clark while wagging her finger at the reporter. “Don’t try to do that.”
Clark would later walk by that same reporter again during Chelsea Gray’s media availability and appeared to tell him, “You aren’t gonna do that.”
Clark and Reese have a well-documented rivalry on the court, dating back to their time in college when the latter taunted the former during the NCAA national championship game. The heated rivalry has continued into the WNBA as well, most notably with a flagrant foul incident involving the two during a game last season.
But all indications are that Clark and Reese have an entirely cordial relationship off the court. The two stars have said plenty of positive things about each other in recent years, and Clark is apparently fed up with the media for trying to drive a wedge between her and Reese at every opportunity.
