The Golden State Warriors will have to soldier on without Steph Curry for the foreseeable future.
The Warriors’ two-time MVP has yet to play this month due to a lingering knee injury sustained during a January 30 contest against the Detroit Pistons. Despite getting additional time off during the All-Star break, Curry is reportedly still a ways away from returning to the court.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters on Wednesday, a day before Golden State’s matchup against the Boston Celtics. According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Kerr revealed that Curry has still not been able to rejoin practice as the All-Star guard “didn’t yet feel the knee was ready for a full workout.”
“We’ve got to be certain. He’s got to be certain,” Kerr said of Curry’s recovery.
Kerr further described Curry’s “runner’s knee” issue as “nebulous.”
The Warriors are 6-10 in games without Curry this season. With Jimmy Butler already out for the season, missing Curry for an extended period could drop Golden State further down the play-in totem pole.
The good news for Warriors fans is that trade deadline acquisition Kristaps Porzingis may make his team debut against the Celtics. While the team has listed Porzingis as questionable, the Latvian center said he was “ready to go” for the face-off against his former team, which was exactly the plan the Warriors’ medical staff set for him heading into the break.
