Washington Generals offer Sister Jean role as team chaplain
The Loyola Chicago Ramblers’ run may be over, but Sister Jean’s is not.
The Washington Generals — also known as the Harlem Globetrotters’ perennial doormats — have sought out Sister Jean’s services as a team chaplain in the hopes of finally besting the Globetrotters.
The Generals confirmed that this is only an offer, but coach Sam Worthen told the team’s official website that this should signify a shift in the balance of power.
“The Generals are nobodies’ pushovers anymore,” Worthen said. “We may have a little drought when it comes to beating the Globetrotters, but Loyola did, too — and look what they did this season after making their first tournament appearance since 1985.
“We’re hoping Sister Jean can bring some divine luck our way now that she’s done at the Final Four in San Antonio.”
The Globetrotters certainly noticed, asking in an Instagram post “So, should we be worried about the @WashGenerals now?”
The Generals, who haven’t beaten the Globetrotters since 1971, have been known to pull publicity stunts like this in the past. This one, however, is a pretty good one.
