Washington Wizards head coach Wes Unseld Jr. entered the season on the hot seat, and the team has finally decided to make a change.
The Wizards announced on Thursday that Unseld will transition from head coach to a front-office advisory role. Unseld said in a statement that he is grateful for his time as the coach in Washington and is looking forward to helping the organization in other ways.

Unseld, 48, became the head coach of the Wizards in 2021. The team won 35 games in each of his first two seasons but decided to stick with him, noting that there was high roster turnover and some significant injuries to key players last year.
The Wizards have been a disaster this season. They fell to 7-36 with a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. It is clear a total rebuild is needed in Washington, and a new coach will be overseeing it.
