Report: Wizards have trade interest in Tristan Thompson
The Cleveland Cavaliers are making Tristan Thompson available in trade talks, and a surprising team has interest in him.
Washington Post Wizards reporter Candace Buckner reported on Monday that the Wizards have interest in Thompson.
So the Tristan Thompson news @WindhorstESPN had previously reported — I’m hearing the same. The #Wizards have expressed interest in Thompson.
A big man who rebounds, does the dirty work + with a trade, the Wiz would have his bird rights … a move w/ an eye toward the future

Thompson is in the final season of his 5-year, $82 million deal and set to become a free agent after the season. But Washington may believe that by having his Bird rights, they would be able to make him an enticing contract offer to stay with them even though they’re not contenders. They do have John Wall coming back at some point and may think things could come together in the future.
Thompson is averaging 11.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season for Cleveland. He turns 29 in March and is young enough to land another multi-year contract. The Cavs are only 13-38 and reportedly are in asset accumulation mode.
