GoFundMe for boxer Daniel Franco raising a lot of money

Daniel Franco was placed in a medically-induced coma after his fight against Jose Haro on Saturday night, and fans have been coming to his aid to help pay for medical expenses.

As of Wednesday morning, a GoFundMe page that was set up by Franco’s father and trainer, Al Franco, had raised nearly $30,000.

“Ok everyone, Daniel suffered head trauma in his fight in Iowa and he had to have emergency surgery,” Al Franco wrote in the description for the fundraiser. “He had two small veins that were bleeding and the doctors were able to take care of them. He is in a medically induced coma and we will have more information soon.”

Franco was knocked out by Haro in the eighth round. He had bleeding in two different spots in his brain as a result of the devastating blow (video here). Al Franco told Dan Rafael of ESPN.com that his son had a setback on Monday night and required additional surgery.

“Daniel had emergency surgery [Monday] night to repair bleeding in the epidural hematoma region of the brain,” Al Franco explained. “His initial surgery was to repair bleeding in the subdural hematoma area.

“The doctors decided to keep part of his skull off this time to help with the pressure. It will remain off for at least six weeks and he will continue to be monitored under strict doctor supervision.”

It’s good to see friends, family members and fans coming together to help Franco, whose life will probably never be the same.
