Report: Buzz Williams expected to take Texas A&M job
Buzz Williams may have a new job for next season.
The Virginia Tech head coach may end up taking the Texas A&M job, according to a report.
Yahoo’s Pete Thamel says it’s almost inevitable that Williams leaves the Hokies for the Aggies. He adds that LSU interim coach Tony Benford may end up on his staff.
Williams has done a fantastic job at Virginia Tech. He’s shown mostly steady improvement after taking over a 9-22 program for the 2014-2015 season and has made the NCAA Tournament three seasons in a row. This season is the most success he’s had since taking over.
Prior to taking the Virginia Tech job, Williams was at Marquette for six seasons. He took the team to the Elite Eight once and Sweet 16 twice.
Going to A&M would be somewhat of a homecoming for Williams. He’s from Greenville, Texas and has coached at both Texas A&M-Kingsville and College Station. He would be a big hire for A&M, which just fired Billy Kennedy after eight seasons.
