North Carolina may be taking a big (and expensive) swing as they look to potentially replace Hubert Davis.

Sportsbook BetOnline.ag released updated odds on Sunday for North Carolina’s next head basketball coach if they ultimately decide to move on from Davis. A notable name now tops the list with 3/1 odds — Florida head coach Todd Golden.

Mark Byington (4/1) and TJ Otzelberger (5/1) have the next best odds to succeed Davis at UNC. Meanwhile, Nate Oats (6/1) and Dusty May (7/1) round out the top five.

Golden, 40, has served as the head coach at Florida since 2022 and led the team to the national championship last season. But he and the Gators are now headed home after losing in Sunday’s Round of 32 matchup to the Iowa Hawkeyes on an epic game-winning shot.

As for Davis, 55, he led North Carolina to the national title game during his first season in 2021-22 but has been all downhill ever since then. With the Tar Heels losing this year to VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, it now appears that Davis is likely to be let go.

North Carolina’s early exit led to Davis receiving some cruel memes on social media. Interestingly enough, the Tar Heels could try to replace him with another coach coming off a March Madness dud in Golden, who is signed with Florida through 2031 but will see his buyout for another college drop down to $11 million by Apr. 15 of this year.
