March is here. That means college basketball programs are hoping to be part of the Field of 68 in the NCAA Tournament, or March Madness, as many call it.

For teams that don’t make the Field of 68, other postseason tournaments include the NIT and CBI. However, the CBI announced on Thursday that the tournament will be canceled this time.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, the CBI will not be held this year. We will see you next year!” the CBI wrote on X.

The CBI is considered the third-best postseason tournament behind March Madness and the NIT.

The CBI began in the 2008 postseason, although it was also canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When teams don’t make the NCAA Tournament, they can receive invites to the NIT or CBI.

Last year, Illinois defeated Cleveland State in the CBI final, and the tournament was held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Army, Florida Gulf Coast and Queens were a few other notable teams to participate in last year’s CBI.

The College Basketball Crown (CBC) is about to be in its second year, and it is a 16-team field that is held in Las Vegas and includes a  $300,000 prize for the winning program.

As of now, there has been no reason given as to why the CBI has been canceled.
