Florida State pulled away from Murray State and defeated them with ease 90-62 on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean they left with any less respect for Ja Morant. In fact, Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton was extremely complimentary of the Racers star.
During his postgame interview on TNT, Hamilton called Morant “virtually unstoppable”.
“I just think that he’s the whole package,” Hamilton said of Morant. “Mentally, emotionally, physically and he’s got skills. He has poise beyond his years. He has quickness and speed. He sees the floor. … We knew he was going to get his because he’s almost virtually unstoppable. But we defended everybody else and were able to … get into a rhythm.”
Morant came out hot to start the game and got the Racers out to a 14-7 lead early before FSU came back and pulled ahead for good. Morant went 5-for-6 on threes and scored 28 points, but he struggled on the rest of his field goals, shooting just 3/15 on twos. The rest of the team didn’t fare any better as Murray State shot just 32.8 percent. On the other side, FSU was excellent and made 50.7 percent of their shots. They’re looking to repeat their success of a year ago when they reached the Elite Eight.
