Jace Howard is following the lead of his father and his older brother in leaving Michigan.

Jace, the 23-year-old son of former Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard, announced over social media this week that he has made his official transfer decision. He will be headed to play at Fordham University in New York, N.Y. (after sharing last month that he would be entering the portal).

Having spent the previous five seasons at Michigan, Jace has one more year of college eligibility remaining. He had the extra COVID year of eligibility and can take a medical redshirt after appearing in just five games last season for the Wolverines. Jace’s numbers at Michigan were very underwhelming (1.4 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in 6.8 minutes per game overall), but he may be in line for much more playing time at Fordham next season.

The Howard family used to be deeply entrenched at Michigan as Juwan was their coach from 2019-24 and his sons Jett and Jace were on the team as well. But Jett left Michigan in 2023 to declare for the NBA Draft (where he was eventually picked by the Orlando Magic) and Juwan was fired in 2024 (now serving as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets).

Jace was also notably part of a 2023 incident with a Michigan strength coach that led to his father, who was still the head basketball coach at the time, having a heated involvement. Now Jace is off to join Fordham, who play in the same state that Juwan now works in.
