Report: Pitt offering Dan Hurley more than $3 million per year
Dan Hurley has a very difficult decision to make now that his sixth season as the head coach of Rhode Island has come to a close, and that decision may come down to three things — money, sentiment and prestige.
If money is the most important factor in determining where he wants to coach next season, Hurley is almost certainly headed to the University of Pittsburgh. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports that Pitt has offered Hurley a deal worth more than $3 million annually.
Pitt has offered Dan Hurley a multi-year deal in excess of $3 million dollars annually to be its next head basketball coach, per multiple sources. UConn and URI still in play.

On Monday, a report indicated that Hurley was close to reaching an agreement with UConn. While coaching the Huskies would allow Hurley to be part of a more storied program, the state of Connecticut is currently in a budget crisis, and UConn probably can’t offer the 45-year-old nearly as much as Pitt. The same can be said for Rhode Island, which is why Hurley would likely only stay there if sentiment played the biggest role in his decision.
The offers made to Dan Hurley by both UConn and Rhode Island are less monetarily than Pitt, but still very much in play, per multiple sources. Decision likely in next 24 hours.

We’re not talking about Kirk Cousins taking $28 million per year to play for the Vikings instead of $30 million to play for the Jets, so it would be totally understandable if Hurley took the Pitt job because it came with a $3 million salary as opposed to, say, $2 million from UConn (just speculation). However you look at it, that’s a pretty good problem to have.
