One of the top college basketball recruits in the country who also happens to be the son of a former 18-year NBA veteran has announced where he plans to go to school.

Tajh Ariza, the son of longtime NBA stalwart Trevor Ariza, announced Friday that he will play for the Oregon Ducks next year. Ariza cited a connection with Ducks head coach Dana Altman as a key reason for his decision.

Ariza is a big get for Oregon, as he is ranked as the No. 14 overall player in the Class of 2026. The five-star recruit is a 6-foot-9 wing at Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco who is regarded as an excellent ballhandler and passer who profiles as a potential point forward.

The USC Trojans had also pursued Ariza for several years, and were the other team he was considering before ultimately picking Oregon.

Ariza’s father Trevor spent 18 years in the NBA and won a title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009. He finished top 20 in NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting five times in his career. He retired after the 2021-22 season.
