Alabama called for penalty after faking injury

An Alabama player down

Alabama was called for a penalty during their game against Tennessee on Saturday after faking an injury.

The Volunteers had the ball down 10-7 to the Crimson Tide in the third quarter of their game at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. On Tennessee’s first play of the possession, Alabama wanted to make a few personnel changes to match the Vols, but they weren’t given the chance to do so. So Alabama had a player go down and fake an injury by the sideline.

The Crimson Tide were called for a penalty for an illegal substitution, which had head coach Kalen DeBoer upset.

Alabama wasn’t given an opportunity to match personnel and oddly got penalized for an illegal substitution, which really seemed like a way to call them out for the fake injury.

If you’ve heard former Alabama coach Nick Saban’s thoughts on faking injuries, then you know he probably wasn’t too happy with how things went down. He probably also would feel Alabama was put into a bad position by not being given a chance to make changes.

The Vols ended up scoring a touchdown on the drive to take the lead.
