Baker Mayfield deletes tweet where he took shot at new Texas signee
Baker Mayfield may be heading to the pros, but he still can’t resist some good ol’ trash talk at the college ranks for old times sake.
Four-star defensive tackle Keondre Coburn officially signed with Texas on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day. He proceeded to tweet a message to Longhorn Nation where he promised to beat Big 12 rival Oklahoma.
I’m so happy to finally be a longhorn baby this has been the hardest process ever but it’s over and my next journey is in Austin and with my boys in this Revolution Class AND I PROMISE WE WILL BEAT OU and the rest of thempic.twitter.com/5Il1vSAmpB

The name drop caught the attention of the former Sooners star Mayfield, who fired some shots back at Coburn in a since-deleted tweet.
In a since deleted tweet, Baker Mayfield trash-talked a teenager, Keondre Coburn, after he signed with #Longhorns on #NSD18. But … Screenshots FTW! Nothing like trolling a high school student, right? pic.twitter.com/1tIIeR8wRM

“This is what we call being naive,” the reigning Heisman winner wrote. “Kid has no idea what it’s like stepping into the Cotton Bowl. So here’s how it works… The team north of the Red River doesn’t flinch. But it’s okay, you’ll see for yourself, wish you the best.”
Soon after, Coburn went back at Mayfield, doubling down on his prediction.
“Yeah you right I don’t know what I’m stepping into,” tweeted Coburn. “But all I can do is work my a– off and prepared myself to beat y’all and anybody else that step my way to be a cold player like yourself. We still gone beat y’all @baker_mayfield6.”
Of course, Mayfield thrived on controversy and trash talk during his four-year college career, so we can’t say that this is entirely surprising (especially considering his history of trolling Texas schools).
