The Kennesaw State Owls made the controversial decision to move on from head coach Brian Bohannon earlier this week, drawing significant criticism for both the move and the school’s handling of it. Bohannon, however, showed his class on Saturday with a move he did not have to make.
Bohannon was on hand to greet his former players at Kennesaw State’s traditional stadium walk prior to their game against Sam Houston on Saturday. Bohannon was trying to pump up and encourage his players, all of whom seemed happy to see him.
Dude…Brian Bohannon is still here pumping up everyone of his players despite undeservingly losing his job.
This is sick and awesome to see. pic.twitter.com/t1KGO5cs2u

Bohannon had been the only head coach in the history of Kennesaw State’s program after beginning play at the FCS level in 2015. The Owls were consistently successful at that level and began the transition to the FBS and Conference USA after the 2022 season, a move that has been accompanied by some struggles. Bohannon was let go as Kennesaw State’s coach this week after a 1-8 start to the season, even though he boasts a career 72-38 record with the school.
To make matters worse, the school originally portrayed Bohannon’s departure as his own decision, only for Bohannon to state that he was let go against his wishes.
Update here.
Kennesaw State contradicted reports they had fired Bohannon with an official press release saying he “decided to step down” (with no quotes from him)
Bohannon then tweeted that was BS, and he was in fact fired.NASTY work. A bad move handled poorly. pic.twitter.com/fgB4qodSlf

Kennesaw State looks bad for this whole affair, while Bohannon looks like the bigger man. Between his solid record and the respectable way in which he has handled himself, Bohannon likely has a coaching future elsewhere.
