BYU coach dismisses criticism from Merril Hoge
BYU assistant coach Ed Lamb responded on Thursday to criticism from Merril Hoge, the father of one of the Cougars’ players.
On Wednesday, Hoge made headlines when he was critical of BYU’s coaches for changing his son, Beau, from a quarterback to a running back. Merril singled out Lamb as being responsible for the “dumb” move.
Lamb seemed uninterested in opening up a beef with Hoge and instead was dismissive, saying he didn’t really want to address Merril’s gripes.
Ed Lamb on Merril Hoge's comments yesterday: I don't want to "really address the parent. It is about Beau. If you want to talk to a passionate dad, talk to my dad. … Dads stick up for their sons, and I understand that. I am a father.” #BYU

More from Lamb on the Hoge flap: "My work and my worries are about my relationship with Beau. I feel like that is in a really good spot. And Beau is in a really good spot, so that is what 100 percent of our focus is on right now.”

Hoge generated plenty of attention with his comments. His son was even forced to distance himself from his dad’s criticism. Beau, who has switched from quarterback to running back, did not participate in the team’s scrimmage on Thursday, according to reporter Jay Drew.
