Carson Beck overcame his Irish demons in Miami’s win Sunday against Notre Dame.
Beck, who transferred from Georgia to Miami earlier this year, led the Hurricanes to a hard-fought 27-24 victory over the Fighting Irish at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The fifth-year senior threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns on a 20/31 passing clip.
It was a delayed revenge game for Beck, whose final contest with Georgia also came against Notre Dame. His 2-seeded Bulldogs were embarrassed 23-10 by the 7-seeded Irish in last year’s College Football Playoff.
The stakes were nowhere near as high during Sunday’s Week 1 slate. But the Miami victory obviously meant a lot to Beck, whose tear ducts were close to overflowing during his postgame interview.
"Man I love these guys. … It's a real family, it's a real brotherhood."

“The past eight months have been so hard,” said Beck. “And I’m just so blessed to be out here, to have the opportunity to play again. Man, I love these guys. I’m so proud of the way we played. We played so hard. In the face of adversity, we got it done when we needed to. I’m just so blessed and so thankful to have an opportunity to play this game I love.”
Beck repeatedly apologized for pausing throughout the interview just to gather himself. Love him or hate him, the man was not afraid to show off his passion for the game of football.
Miami carried a 21-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Notre Dame battled back to tie the game at 24 with just over three minutes left. The Hurricanes were able to get into field goal range and retake the lead 27-24 with a minute remaining. The Fighting Irish were never able to get past their own 30 as time expired.
Miami wide receiver CJ Daniels arguably deserved a shoutout from Beck during the interview. Daniels hauled in an early Catch of the Year contender to close the first half that proved to be the difference in the contest.
