Report: Charlie Strong accepts South Florida job
Charlie Strong was not unemployed long, with the former Texas coach headed back to familiar territory.
Strong has agreed to a five-year contract to coach South Florida, according to Chris Low of ESPN, replacing new Oregon coach Willie Taggart.
It’s not quite a new challenge for strong, at least with regards to his familiarity with the state of Florida. He was Urban Meyer’s defensive coordinator at Florida and won two championships there, and has significant experience recruiting in the state.
Interestingly, Strong reportedly spoke to Taggart about the USF job as he was considering taking it, and Taggart was interested in bringing Strong to Oregon as a defensive coordinator.
It’s no surprise Strong got another job quickly. He was linked to another intriguing position as well, but it’s USF that has secured his services.
