Justin Fields may have thrown an interception on Ohio State’s final offensive play of the game Saturday night, but it was Chris Olave who was taking the blame over it.
Ohio State had a 2nd-and-7 at the Clemson 23 down 29-23 in the final minute. Fields threw into the end zone for Olave, but there was no Buckeye receiver around. Instead, Nolan Turner made an easy interception in the end zone to seal the game.

Gonna be talking about the Olave play for a long time. Hate this game had to end this way. #OSUvsCLEM pic.twitter.com/KsrvYukLVQ

After the game, Olave took the blame, saying he broke off his route because he thought Fields was scrambling.
Chris Olave took full blame for the play at the end. Said it was “my mistake” and that it was his fault OSU lost. He thought Justin Fields scrambled so he broke off his route. Classy kid. He answered every question.

That helps explain Fields’ heartbreaking reaction to the interception.
That is class of Olave to take responsibility for things. He didn’t have to do that, but saying so shows leadership from the sophomore.
Olave had 3 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the game.
