A University of Cincinnati football player has died, according to the school.
The Cincinnati Bearcats football team shared the news on Tuesday that freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly died unexpectedly at his home earlier that morning. Kelly, who was in his first year with the program, was 18.
“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield said in a statement. “In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.”
No cause of death was given.
Kelly was a graduate of Avon High School in Avon, Ohio. He helped lead his team to a 16-0 record and their first ever state championship last year. Kelly was a first-team all-conference selection and named SWC Lineman of the Year for his high school conference.
Kelly enrolled early at Cincinnati and had been practicing with the football team during the spring semester.
