The College Football Playoff Selection Committee faced a tremendous amount of scrutiny for leaving Florida State out of the tournament, and apparently the backlash resulted in the FBI being contacted.

College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock told reporters on Monday that serious threats were made against the CFP and its committee members after undefeated Florida State was not chosen as one of the four-best teams in the country. Hancock said the CFP Selection Committee has had to contact the FBI.

Hancock said homes and offices were threatened, prompting CFP to hire additional security in some cases.

Florida State is the only undefeated Power Five conference champion to ever be excluded from the College Football Playoff. You can understand why the Seminoles and their supporters were angry, as the decision showed that there was nothing they could have done to get into the tournament after starting quarterback Jordan Travis went down.

Of course, Hancock and everyone else associated with the CFP felt validated after seeing what happened to the Seminoles when they played Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

The CFP Selection Committee cares about ratings and money above all else. Their decision to include Alabama instead of Florida State led to two outstanding semifinal games, so no one is going to convince them it was the wrong one.
