
Despite their best efforts, the Stanford defense wasn’t really able to contain USC quarterback Sam Darnold on Saturday evening.
Darnold threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns against the Cardinal, making plays with his arm and his legs. It left Stanford coach David Shaw befuddled — and throwing out a pretty funny one-liner about the Heisman contender’s ability.

After a very underwhelming season opener, Darnold and the Trojans looked more like a team capable of backing up their quarterback’s confident words. Shaw, whose Stanford teams typically fare better than they did Saturday, is left searching for answers.
