USC quarterback Sam Darnold has big ambitions as he embarks on his sophomore season.
In an appearance on Adam Schefter’s “Know Them From Adam” podcast, Darnold said that his goal for 2017 was to lead the Trojans to a championship.
“I think we’re really set to win a national championship,” Darnold said. “But first of all we’ve got to win the Pac-12 South, which isn’t easy, and then the Pac-12. But we’re really set on a national championship. We can definitely do it. We definitely have the tools, we have the athletes, the big men up front to do it. It’s just a matter of executing and really not beating ourselves, and if we can do that, I think we’ll be fine.”
USC is definitely on the shortlist of potential champions. Still, there are a lot of talented teams this year, and Darnold is facing a level of expectation he won’t have faced before.
