Deshon Marman Arrested for Refusing to Pull up his Sagging Pants on Airplane
Deshon Marman, a defensive back for the University of New Mexico, was arrested and removed from a plane after allegedly refusing to pull up his baggy pants. This is not a joke. Marman was on his way to attend the funeral of a friend when he ran into problems. The San Francisco Chronicle provides details:
An airline employee spotted Marman before he boarded Flight 488, bound for Albuquerque, and complained that Marman’s pants “were below his buttocks but above the knees, and that much of his boxer shorts were exposed,” Rodriguez said.
The employee asked Marman to pull up his pants before he boarded the plane, but he refused, Rodriguez said. Marman allegedly repeated his refusal after taking his seat on the plane.
“At that point he was asked to leave the plane,” Rodriguez said. “It took 15 to 20 minutes of talking to get him to leave the plane, and he was arrested for trespassing.” Marman allegedly resisted officers as he was being led away.
If you think Marman was being targeted because he had baggy pants and dreadlocks, keep in mind the airline has a policy against “indecent exposure or inappropriate” attire. It sounds silly, and it may be, but if someone is asking you to pull up your pants based on that policy it should be pretty easy to comply. I mean hey, if it can cause a disturbance at a mall for another football player, then you shouldn’t be surprised it can cause a problem on an airplane.
