Ed Orgeron: Lane Kiffin was going to join LSU as offensive coordinator
The rumors, apparently, were true — at one point, Lane Kiffin looked like he was headed to LSU as offensive coordinator.
Both Kiffin and LSU coach Ed Orgeron confirmed that the former Alabama offensive coordinator was very much in the mix until the Florida Atlantic head coaching job was offered to him.
“We were looking at Lane Kiffin,” Orgeron said Friday, via Ross Dellenger of the Advocate. “He was going to come. He got a head (coaching) job.”
Kiffin also admitted in an interview with Arkansas sports radio host Bo Mattingly that he had interest in the position.
“I was, because I really think they’re going to win a lot there and do great things, and they got some great players coming back — especially the running backs,” Kiffin said.
This was widely reported back in November. Ultimately, the allure of another college head coaching job was too much for Kiffin to pass up, but it’s clear he was leaving Alabama either way.
