Emmitt Smith’s son, EJ, on Wednesday chose to sign with the Stanford Cardinal. Like his father, EJ is a top running back. Unlike his father, he chose not to join the Florida Gators.
Did Emmitt, a Hall of Fame running back, have a problem with his son’s choice? Not at all. Rather, he supported his son for choosing his own path and said he and his wife will back all their children as they pursue their choices.
This is a message all parents should hear:

EJ’s mother was celebrating on Twitter when her son got into Stanford, which seemed like a clue that that was EJ’s top choice.
EJ attends Dallas Jesuit in Texas. He chose Stanford over Texas A&M, Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia.
