Florida State loses on blocked field goal returned for touchdown (Video)
Last week, Michigan suffered one of the more heartbreaking loses in recent memory to in-state rivals Michigan State. On Saturday, Florida State suffered a bitter defeat of its own.
With the game tied 16-16 and six seconds remaining in regulation, Florida State’s Roberto Aguayo lined up for a 56-yard field goal attempt to win the game for the Seminoles. With one of college football’s best kickers on their side, FSU fans were probably feeling confident in the All-American delivering in the clutch. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Aguayo’s kick was blocked with the ball finding its way into the hands of Lance Austin, who returned it 78 yards the other way for an improbable touchdown and victory for the Yellow Jackets over the No. 9 Seminoles.
The loss was Florida State’s first since November 24, 2012 when they lost to Florida. The Seminoles had won 31 consecutive games since then. What a way for the streak to come to an end.
