New Florida State QB has serious trash talk for Alabama

Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos has given Alabama some outstanding bulletin board material ahead of the 2025 season.

Castellanos transferred to Florida State from Boston College this offseason and is projected to be the Seminoles’ starting quarterback. Florida State will open its season by hosting Alabama on Aug. 30, and Castellanos is confident he will be able to make plays against a team that is expected to be ranked inside the top 10 nationally.

In an interview with Pete Nakos of On3 that was published on Monday, Castellanos suggested Alabama has lost its intimidation factor now that Nick Saban is retired.

“I’m excited, man. People, I don’t know if they know, but you go back and watch every first game that I played in, we always start fast,” Castellanos told Nakos. “I dreamed of moments like this. I dreamed of playing against Alabama. They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me.”

Castellanos started 20 games at Boston College over the last two seasons. The dual-threat quarterback threw for 2,248 yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2023. He also had 1,133 rushing yards and 13 scores on the ground that season.

Castellanos was not nearly as effective in Bill O’Brien’s first season as the head coach at BC last year. The former UCF transfer threw for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns and 5 interceptions but rushed for only 194 yards and a touchdown. He was benched late in the year.

Alabama went 9-4 in their first season under head coach Kalen DeBoer last year. There was a big debate over whether they should have made the College Football Playoff, but they suffered too many bad losses and were left out.

Castellanos seems supremely confident that DeBoer’s second season with the Crimson Tide is going to get off to a rough start. You can bet the quarterback’s comments will be hanging on the wall inside the Alabama locker room for the next two months.
