Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson takes jab at SEC

Mississippi State had no answer for Georgia Tech’s high-powered offense on Wednesday night. The No. 12 Yellow Jackets hung 49 points on the No. 7 Bulldogs in a game that never really felt close. But wait, isn’t Mississippi State from the SEC?

Truth be told, America’s most powerful conference has looked mediocre thus far in bowl games. TCU beat Ole Miss 45-3 on Wednesday. The day before that, Notre Dame defeated LSU on a last-second field goal. The SEC is just 3-3 thus far, and Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson was happy to squash some of the hype.

“For at least a week or two we don’t have to hear about the SEC,” Johnson said after his team’s big win.

Thursday will be a big day for the SEC, with Missouri, Auburn and Alabama all in action. All three are favored, and order will be restored if all three came away with wins. And if not, Nick Saban might actually respond to Bob Stoops this time around.
