Jacob Eason visits Florida, gets visit from Washington State

Jacob Eason Mark Richt

Georgia’s decision to fire Mike Richt as head coach may end up costing them prized recruit Jacob Eason.

Eason, a five-star quarterback from Lake Stevens (Wash.) High School, had been committed to the Bulldogs since July 2014 — prior to his junior year. Eason already signed his financial papers to attend Georgia, and he plans to enroll in school early. However, with Richt out, the Washington product apparently is open to exploring options.

247 Sports reports that Eason is set to arrive in Florida Tuesday night for a visit.

The Seattle Times reports that Washington State head coach Mike Leach visited Eason on Monday. Washington’s Chris Petersen is also waiting with a scholarship offer for Eason.

Eason’s high school coach Tom Tri told The Times that Eason is “in a holding pattern” regarding his commitment to Georgia. He says UCLA, Michigan, Stanford and Notre Dame were also on Eason’s original short list of schools.

Whatever Eason decides, it won’t come before too long. If he plans to enroll in college in January, he doesn’t have long to make his choice. Maybe Georgia should have considered this more strongly before they canned Richt and had him fly commercial to visit Eason.
