Has Jake Moody replaced Quinn Nordin as Michigan’s kicker?
The Michigan Wolverines appear to officially have a new kicker.
During the first half of Saturday’s Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl between Michigan and Florida, Jake Moody served as the Wolverines’ kicker. That marked the third straight game where Moody kicked for Michigan over Quinn Nordin.
Moody, a freshman, saw his first action against Indiana on Nov. 17, getting the nod before the game because Nordin was ill. Moody set a school record with six field goals that game and made his extra point. He remained the kicker against Ohio State and went 2/2 and made all three of his extra points.
In the bowl game, Moody continued as the starting kicker. He made a 48-yarder but missed from 52.
What makes this a big deal and noteworthy? Jim Harbaugh infamously slept over at Nordin’s house almost three years ago to secure him as a recruit. Michigan even put up a billboard to recruit him. Despite that, Nordin has not lived up to Harbaugh’s expectations and the two have had a rough relationship as a result.
Harbaugh had been waiting a while to give someone else a chance at the gig. Moody took his opportunity and has run with it.
