Former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has been sentenced for an incident with a staff member following his firing as head coach.
Moore was sentenced to 18 months of probation and fined for two misdemeanors, via Dan Wetzel of ESPN. He could have faced up to a year in prison for trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship, though this was never seen as a likely outcome.
The former Michigan coach spoke briefly, saying he took the legal process “very seriously” and thanked “my beautiful wife, Kelli, for her support and strength to stand by me.”
In a statement, Paige Shiver, the staffer with whom Moore was conducting an inappropriate relationship, said Moore’s sentence was insufficient.
“He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives,” Shiver said. “I was threatened, and I feared for my life.”
Moore was fired in December for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. After being informed of his firing, he allegedly went to the staffer’s house and threatened her, prompting the felony home invasion charge. He had previously denied any wrongdoing.
Moore was fired for cause after information about the alleged affair came to light. Further troubling claims about his behavior have continued to come out since then.
