Jerrod Heard put together the kind of game for Texas Saturday that reminded fans of Vince Young. Funny enough, VY felt similarly.
During his media appearance Monday, Heard, the redshirt freshman quarterback for the Longhorns, said he received an encouraging text message from the Texas icon.
“He told me he was proud of me, to keep my head up and keep going,” Heard said via the Star-Telegram. “It was something special to get that text. I’ve always looked up to him.”
That’s pretty darn awesome for Heard, who passed for 364 yards and rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns in setting the school record for most total yards in a game at 527 Saturday against Cal.
Young, and later Colt McCoy, were masters at killing opposing teams with lethal combinations of passing and rushing plays. Heard is well on his way to joining that group. It’s nice to already be well received by one of those legends.
