Malik Zaire is expected to see time at quarterback in Florida’s season-opening game against Michigan on Saturday even though he wasn’t named the team’s starter.
Jim McElwain’s Gators have quite a logjam at the quarterback position. Redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks was named the team’s starter, but he faces competition from Zaire and last year’s starter, Luke Del Rio.
McElwain said on his radio show Thursday that Zaire will “no doubt” play in the game.

Zaire is in his first year at Florida as a graduate transfer from Notre Dame. He threw for six touchdowns and no interceptions during his career with the Fighting Irish.
Zaire could be in for even more action if Franks struggles, though McElwain is not expecting that to happen.

The Gators and Wolverines will be playing Saturday’s game at a neutral site in Arlington.
